Western Michigan Walk for Apraxia

Why I walk for Apraxia Kids!

I walk to support children with childhood apraxia of speech, our Apraxia Stars, and to celebrate the incredible work they put into communicating every day. As a speech-language pathologist, I have the privilege of supporting children with apraxia as they build their speech and communication skills, confidence, and ability to connect with the people around them.

I walk to remind children and families that they are not alone and to celebrate every child’s individual strengths and progress. Children with apraxia often put an incredible amount of effort into something many of us take for granted, coordinating the movements needed for speech. My role as an SLP is to meet each child where they are, recognize their unique communication strengths, and provide individualized support that helps them communicate more effectively and confidently in their everyday lives.

I also walk to raise funds for the mission of Apraxia Kids, to strengthen the support systems surrounding children with apraxia through professional and family education, community engagement, advocacy, and research.

Please consider helping me reach my fundraising goal by making a donation or joining our team. Together, we can help children with apraxia and their families access the knowledgeable professionals, resources, and communities they deserve.

Every child deserves to feel heard, understood, and celebrated for exactly who they are.
