Why I walk for Apraxia Kids!
We’re walking because our son is 7 years old, and at just 3 years old, he was diagnosed with childhood apraxia of speech.
Since then, we’ve experienced the ups and downs that come with navigating therapies, communication challenges, learning, and parenting in ways we never expected. We’ve had to learn to listen differently, advocate differently, celebrate the little victories, and find the things that work specifically for him. It hasn’t always been easy, but every step of the journey has shown us just how strong, determined, and incredible our son is.
We’re walking for him.
We want him to know just how important he is, how proud we are of him, and how much he means to our family. We want him to grow up knowing that his voice matters—whether it comes through words, actions, gestures, or simply being exactly who he is.
But we’re also walking for all the other children and families navigating apraxia. We know firsthand how overwhelming it can feel to find your way through diagnoses, therapies, appointments, and all the questions that come with trying to figure out what your child needs. We want to help support families who are somewhere along that same journey and remind them that they aren’t alone.
Our hope is that by walking, fundraising, and sharing our story, we can help create more awareness, resources, research, and support for children with apraxia and the families who love them.
For our son. For his voice. For his future. And for every child working so hard to be heard. 💙
