Seattle Walk for Apraxia

Superhero Ave!

Dear friends and family,

Avery was suspected diagnosed 4 years ago (April 2022) with Childhood Apraxia of Speech, CAS. This year will mark our 4th year joining Apraxia Kids for their annual walk in Seattle. We never held possible where Avery is in his speech today. All of our kids, are chatterboxes. Apraxia or not, Avery will share, chat, laugh and joke! I like to describe Avery has my loving, funny and determined 5 year old. He knows how to cheer people up, always shows kindness and a positive attitude. He is feeling so excited to start Kindergarten at Lakeland elementary this fall. When asked he will tell you how he is looking forward to riding the bus with his older brother.

Avery continues to see his school providers speech, OT and PT. He will be graduating this fall to seeing his private speech provider only once a week! What an achievement from 3 times a week!!!!

Two out of our 3 years walking for Apraxia we were Top Sponsors! Last year we collected over $2400. It is an achievement to be EXTREMELY proud of. I really want to take a moment to say thank you. Year after year I have felt proud for such an amazing community of friends and family supporting us in the cause.

The challenge with Apraxia of speech is the complexity of this disorder. When we found out that Avery was diagnosed with Apraxia we had no idea what it meant. We knew no one struggling with this. Dealing with a diagnoses that is unknown is complicated because it requires learning about it and creating a new community that relates to it. I had the privilege to get a scholarship through Apraxia Kids in 2024 to attend their conference. Two years later I will be heading back to Pittsburgh as a presenter to share my knowledge on Apraxia and advocacy during the conference. can’t wait Through Apraxia Kids I connected with other parents. I met the most lovely people all over the country,  people who have become friends, to share our ups and downs through this journey of ApraxiaI am so thankful to have connected with this organization. Full of pride for Avery, for my family and for the organization I look forward to another year of walking!

We hope you can join our efforts, in spirit, in present or through support!
