Philadelphia Walk for Apraxia

Why I walk for Apraxia Kids!

Leila was diagnosed with apraxia of speech after further evaluation for a speech delay around the age of 3. Apraxia is a motor planning disorder -- the brain knows what it wants to say, but can't properly organize the  sequence required to make the speech sounds and words.

The start of school highlighted additional effects of apraxia including: difficulty with fine motor skills, balance and coordination, and establishing age appropriate social skills. There is no quick fix or cure, treatment includes intensive therapy and utilizing specialized resources. We are so thankful for the team of physical, occupational, and speech therapists, along with many amazing teachers that show up daily as we continue to navigate challenges and adjust.

The Walk for Apraxia recognizes our commitment to Leila and all the Apraxia stars. Reaching our fundraising goals is directly reflective of the support from family, friends and the community who have made so many positive contributions and offered love and acceptance along this journey.
