Why we walk for Apraxia Kids!
We walk to support Lukas. He started his journey at two and a half when he wasn't quite hitting those verbal milestones. We were so lucky to work closely with The Burke Center and ECI and were very spoiled with an incredible speech pathologist that came to our home twice a week. She had a suspicion that Lukas had Apraxia... whatever that was. We had never heard of it before. So, now we walk to raise awareness for adults and children alike.Lukas works so hard throughout the entire year. He's now almost four and most weeks he goes to speech therapy not once or twice, but three to four times per week. We are incredibly thankful that our small town in East Texas has a university. One with a great speech pathology program. (shout out SFA!) and a public school district that evaluates and works with three year old's to give them therapy at zero cost.
This summer Lukas is also enrolled for a literacy summer camp for that extra push during slow season. In short, this boy works SO HARD and is BUSY becoming the best version of himself. Even if he does it with a big dimpled grin and silly faces sometimes.
Consider being a part of our team! We'd love to see you at the walk. Please don't feel obligated to donate - but if you do know that your funds are going towards research to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia.
We will always be an advocate for Lukas - We hope you can be also! If you have any questions feel free to reach out.
