Boston Walk for Apraxia

Why I walk for Apraxia Kids!

I walk to support all children diagnosed with apraxia of speech - our Apraxia Stars. To show these children they are not alone and to acknowledge all the hard work they must do to overcome communication challenges that affect their day-to-day lives.

I walk to raise funds for the mission of Apraxia Kids – to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia of speech by educating professionals and families; facilitating community engagement and outreach; and investing in the future through advocacy and research.

Please help me meet my fundraising goal by making a donation now or by joining our team.  You, too, can make an impact for children and families affected by apraxia!
I believe, “Every child deserves a voice”.

What is CAS?

Sunday 23rd Aug

Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a speech disorder that makes it difficult for a child’s brain to plan and coordinate the movements needed to talk. The child may know exactly what they want to say, but their brain has trouble telling their mouth, lips, and tongue how to move in the right order.

Children with CAS may understand much more than they are able to say. Their speech may be hard to understand, they may say the same word differently each time, have trouble putting sounds together, or need extra time and practice to learn new words.

CAS is not caused by a lack of intelligence or not knowing what to say. It is a neurological speech disorder, and children with CAS can make progress with specialized, frequent speech therapy that focuses on practicing the movements needed for speech.
