Twin Cities Walk for Apraxia

Let's Go, Leo!

We are walking to support children diagnosed with apraxia of speech, especially our own Apraxia Star, Leo. We want to show children with apraxia of speech that they are not alone and to acknowledge all the hard work they must do to overcome communication challenges that affect their day-to-day lives.

We walk to raise funds for the mission of Apraxia Kids – to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia of speech by educating professionals and families; facilitating community engagement and outreach; and investing in the future through advocacy and research.

Please help us meet our fundraising goal by making a donation now or by joining our team.  You, too, can make an impact for children and families affected by apraxia!
We believe, “Every child deserves a voice”.  Let's Go, Leo!

Leo's Journey

Thursday 26th Mar
Leo did not jabber like most 18 -24 month old children. Most of his sounds were single vowel sounds. He started attending speech just after turning 2. Since that time Leo has been working hard with his speech therapists. He started with single consonant and vowel sounds (mama, dada, papa)-- needing to learn how to shape his lips by copying his therapist and eventually being able to create the word on his own. Now at age 4 he is using his voice much more -- approximating many more words and accomplishing clearer speech with some words. He is starting to use his ipad "talker" more often. It is a joy to hear Leo saying words. Every child has something to share! Apraxia Kids is helping children find their voice!
