Western New York Walk for Apraxia

Why I walk for Apraxia Kids!

Hi everyone,

My name is Aaron Blum, and I have apraxia. Growing up with it was very difficult. For a long time, I felt embarrassed to admit that I had a disability. School was especially challenging for me, both academically and socially. It was hard to keep up in class, and it was also hard to make friends.

But I was also very lucky to have amazing parents, therapists, and teachers who supported me along the way. They helped me not only academically, but socially as well. My mom is a speech-language pathologist who dedicated much of her career to helping children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech. All of these people played a huge role in helping me succeed, and I am incredibly grateful for everything they did for me growing up.

Today, I am no longer embarrassed by my apraxia. It is part of who I am, and I am proud of the journey it has taken me on. It is so important not to be ashamed of who you are. Be proud of your journey, and be proud of your voice.

If you are struggling right now, know that you will get through it, just like I did. You can be successful, and you will find your voice too.
