Why we walk for Apraxia Kids!
After participating in speech and occupational therapy for the last few months, Bentley was recently diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). While we are still learning what this diagnosis means for him, we know one thing for certain: Bentley is strong, capable, and we will be beside him every step of the way. Participating in Walk for Apraxia - Oklahoma City for the first time for Apraxia Kids means a lot to our family.
We walk for Bentley, and we walk for all children diagnosed with apraxia of speech — our Apraxia Stars. We walk to remind these children that they are not alone and to recognize the incredible amount of hard work they put in every day to overcome communication challenges that can affect even the simplest parts of daily life.
We walk to support the mission of Apraxia Kids. To strengthen the support systems surrounding children with apraxia of speech by educating professionals and families, facilitating community engagement and outreach, and investing in the future through advocacy and research.
Every step we take is a step toward greater understanding, support, and opportunity for children like Bentley.
