Why I walk for Apraxia Kids!
I walk to support all children diagnosed with childhood apraxia of speech—our Apraxia Stars. Every child deserves the opportunity to communicate, connect, and be understood. This walk is a way to remind these incredible children and their families that they are not alone and to recognize the determination, resilience, and hard work they put into communicating every single day.
As a speech-language pathologist, I have the privilege of working with many children with diverse communication styles, including Gestalt Language Processors. When childhood apraxia of speech and Gestalt Language Processing occur together, the journey can be even more complex. These children often know exactly what they want to say, but the motor planning challenges of apraxia can make it incredibly difficult to produce the gestalts and language they are trying to communicate. They deserve therapists, educators, and families who understand both their motor speech needs and their unique language development.
I walk to raise funds for the mission of Apraxia Kids – to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia of speech by educating professionals and families; facilitating community engagement and outreach; and investing in the future through advocacy and research.
Please help me meet my fundraising goal by making a donation now or by joining our team. You, too, can make an impact for children and families affected by apraxia!
I believe, “Every child deserves a voice”.
