Pittsburgh Walk for Apraxia

Why I walk for Apraxia Kids!

I walk to support all children diagnosed with apraxia of speech - our Apraxia Stars. To show these children they are not alone and to acknowledge all the hard work they must do to overcome communication challenges that affect their day-to-day lives.

I walk to raise funds for the mission of Apraxia Kids – to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia of speech by educating professionals and families; facilitating community engagement and outreach; and investing in the future through advocacy and research.

Please help me meet my fundraising goal by making a donation now or by joining our team.  You, too, can make an impact for children and families affected by apraxia!
I believe, “Every child deserves a voice”.

Finding Apraxia

Wednesday 13th May
Apraxia was not a familiar term in our home. In fact, it was not a term we knew at all. When my oldest son was close to three years old he still was not talking, let alone even really trying. I was told to wait till he’s three, some are just late learners. I took matters into my own hands and started getting more opinions, that’s when we were referred for testing and got the diagnosis of Apraxia. It has been a long 5 years of continuous speech therapy, exercises, and patience. Improvement is made every day. I am so very thankful for the speech therapist that have been a part of our journey thus far. It has been a struggle getting people to understand the diagnosis as a whole and to find the right path for our son. We hope to continue to raise awareness of apraxia and to hopefully help more children find their voice.
