Why I walk for Apraxia Kids!
Why I Walk for Apraxia – For Karsyn 💙I walk for my daughter, Karsyn.
I walk for every time she knows exactly what she wants to say but the words won’t come out the way she wants them to.
I walk for the daily challenges most people never see — the frustration of trying to explain something and not being understood, struggling to express her wants and needs, or wanting to join in but communication making it harder. I walk for the moments that can feel isolating, like wanting to make friends but hitting communication barriers that others don’t always understand.
But more than anything, I walk because Karsyn is incredible.
She is bright, beautiful, smart, funny, silly, strong, and full of personality. She has so much to say, so many thoughts, ideas, and feelings — and she works harder than most people will ever realize just to get them out into the world.
Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a neurological motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for the brain to plan and coordinate the movements needed for speech. Kids with apraxia know what they want to say — but their brains have trouble telling their mouths how to say it. It’s not something they outgrow overnight, and progress takes years of therapy, patience, repetition, and incredible determination.
Children with apraxia fight for every sound, every word, every sentence.
And Karsyn does exactly that — every single day.
I walk to raise awareness so more people understand apraxia. I walk to support research, resources, and families navigating this journey. I walk to help build a world where kids like Karsyn feel heard, included, supported, and never alone.
Most of all, I walk because every child deserves a voice — and Karsyn’s voice matters.
If you’d like to support our team, donate, or walk alongside us, it means more than you know. Thank you for helping us advocate for children with apraxia and for cheering on our sweet Karsyn every step of the way. 💙
