I'm racing for strength, I'm fundraising for Apraxia Kids!

I've watched my child with childhood apraxia of speech grow and overcome many speech hurdles through his life. It wasn't always easy, but he did and continues to push through to make progress each day.  I'm an apraxia mom trying to stay strong for him and Apraxia Kids has been our rock through it all.  My race isn't just for him, but all individuals like him.  I race so they may reach their highest communication potential and feel the same support along the way!

Too Cold? Nah!

Monday 12th Jan
This morning was COLD!  I wanted to put my efforts to walk on hold until later in the day.  I also wanted to walk on my treadmill, thinking I couldn't handle the under 30 degrees temps.

But!  My friend encouraged me to put on a few layers and take a walk.  Maybe the cold, windy weather would push us to walk a little faster?  Guess what - it did!  And by time we were wrapping up our walk, my Fitbit logged 4,245 steps and 1.8 miles!  Yay for me.  Good for the heart, soul, and prep as I try to complete my 5K in under 45 minutes in late February.

On top of that, I think of my Apraxia Star.  He text me this morning about something that was bothering him.  I knew he was struggling because when I asked him to give me more information, he just replied, "I forget".  His go-to response when things are too overwhelming.  It has been the same response he has given us since he was very young.  I know he didn't forget, it was just too much for him.  I'll talk to him later about his text, but it is a reminder about how I know apraxia affects him and why I keep raising awareness.
