Walking for Isla Rudd: Every Child Deserves a Voice

Monday 28th Sep

On Sunday, 18 October, our family is lacing up our walking shoes for the Apraxia Kids Walk—and we are inviting you to join us!
We are walking in honour of our beautiful family friend, Isla Rudd, to help raise vital awareness and funds for Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).
The Reality of Apraxia
Before Isla’s diagnosis, we didn’t fully understand what apraxia meant. We quickly learned that it has absolutely nothing to do with intelligence. Isla is incredibly bright. Her mind is racing, her thoughts are fully formed, and she knows exactly what she wants to say.
The challenge is a neurological disconnect. Her brain knows the words, but it struggles to send the correct signals to her jaw, lips, and tongue to produce those sounds. Imagine knowing exactly what you want to write, but the pen in your hand refuses to move the way you want it to. That is the daily reality of apraxia.
Why We Need Your Support
What people don’t always see is the fierce bravery it takes to live with this condition. Every single clear word you hear from Isla is the result of hundreds of hours of intense, exhausting speech therapy. While other kids pick up speech naturally, children with apraxia have to work a hundred times harder just to be heard.
The funds we raise go directly to Apraxia Kids to provide life-changing support, including:
  • Speech Tablets: Providing iPads and communication tools to children who cannot yet speak.
  • Specialist Training: Funding advanced training for speech pathologists so families can access expert care.
  • Research & Grants: Funding vital research and providing financial grants to families facing overwhelming therapy costs.
How You Can Help Us
  1. Donate to our page: Any amount, big or small, makes a massive difference in helping kids like Isla find their voice.
  2. Join our walking team: Hit the "Join Team" button and come walk with us on 18 October!
  3. Spread the word: Share this page with your friends, family, and colleagues.
